Old World 2-Panel Segment Spanish Cedar Wood Entry Double Doors with Custom Carvings – DbyD-3019
These Old World Tuscan style doors are each 30″ x 96″ and feature a common segment top. They were built out of Cypress which the experts in our finishing department hand distressed before finishing them. This pair of doors were designed to go on the home of a well known architect in Montgomery, Alabama. He bought this contemporary home and did a major remake to change it to a Tucson look before ever moving in.
Each door has a lion head and other carvings applied to the top raised panel. The lower panel is carved. In place of our standard brick mold, we used our 8711 Casing with 8387 Backband to give the unit an even larger appearance. The exterior brick mold also features a double keystone at the top with a lion head.
The door joints, where the stiles and rails meet, have wood pegs that were shaped on the ends and left sticking out about 1/2″. The doors were distressed by sandblasting and the double floating raised panels were allowed to check or split on one side to add to the look. The doors were finished using a patina that chemically reacts with the metals that were absorbed into the wood when it was a living tree. This process darkens the wood and the different metals gave the wood some green tones also adding to the Old World look.
Before installation, we installed a piece of hardware from Period Brass, and if you look close, you will see that the door bell button also has a lion head.
