This is one of 38 doors Custom Designed and Built in 1998 for the Magnificant Johnson Home built in a rural section of Crabapple, Georgia on the outskirts of Atlanta. These doors ranged in size from 24″ wide to a pair of 11 foot pocket doors 3″ thick and weighing over 300 pounds each. The home owner is a prominant real estate developer in Atlanta and brought us pictures he has taken in New York City for us to use as a guide in building these doors. One of particular interest was of the inside wood panels in an elevator of an old hotel in New York. This door has heavy decorative molding on both sides featuring egg and dart molding, specially turned half columns with rosettes that can be seen below. The molding extends 4″ out on each side of the 2 1/4″ thick door. The picture at the bottom right shows the Custom Raised Panel Design that comes to a point on the face of the panel and has a Raised Molding Border. The door is 42″ X 96″ and is built of Quarter Sewn Red Oak and was pictured before being finished and the installation of the glass. The Entry also has 2 Sidelites and a 3 Piece Transom in a Custom Jamb which are not pictured. His builder was so impressed that he later commissioned us to design and build doors for his personal home.
